EARLY SEASON TOP 5 FINISHES ARE PROOF POSITIVE FOR LIVEVITAL/MAINE HANDICAPPED SKIING PARTNERSHIP.
Portland, ME: As the lead sponsor of Maine Handicapped Skiing’s race team for the 2010-2011 season, Dave Knop, owner of Livevital Physical Therapy + Performance has been working off season with Paralympic hopeful Alex Tomaszewski to (need your help here… build strength, correct imbalances and improve overall performance?)… and get him closer to his goal of competing in the 2114 Paralympics. Tomaszewski is one of 13 brothers and sisters adopted from around the world and dreams of competing at the winter Paralympics in Russia, the country where he was born.
Last week Tomaszewski competed in his first races of the season at the International Paralympic Committee NorAm at Copper Mountain, Colorado. As a below-knee amputee, Tomaszewski competed with the standing men in a reportedly very strong field of athletes from the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, Australia and Chile. Tomaszewski finished in the top 5 for US men and in the top 12 overall in all four races. At 16, Tomaszewski is one of the youngest racers in the field, making the added strength and size he gained in dry land training that much more important to his success. His hard work earned Tomaszewski one of four spots on the Disabled Sports USA “E-Team” for emerging paralympic hopefuls, bringing him one step closer to his dream.
“It was very clear from the moment Alex put his skis on that he is a much stronger athlete this year. The improvements in strength and balance that he achieved in the off season have given him the freedom to focus more on his ski technique on snow.” said Head Race Coach for Maine Handicapped Skiing, Diane Barras. “I believe that his off-season training was a major factor in his success so early in the season–he finished very well against a tough international field. We are looking forward to seeing how his improved strength and conditoning will impact the rest of this season and beyond.”
As the lead sponsor for MHS Racing, livevital PHYSICAL THERAPY + PERFORMANCE is committed to helping MHS athletes overcome barriers, improve their performance and reach their true athletic potential.
Get Strong. Be Well. Live Vital.
